Who We Are?
Save the Children works for an India in which every child attains the right
to survival, protection, development and participation.
Children are our future. The world will survive if children survive. But it’s not just about survival. All children have the right not just to live but live their lives to the full potential. For that to happen, the child first needs to have a shot at a decent life. At Save the Children, we do whatever it takes to ensure this happens, especially when it comes to the millions of vulnerable boys and girls who are in harm’s way – in conflict zones, inhospitable terrain or, for whatever other reason, far removed from development for no fault of their own.
Through our path-breaking programmes designed to reach out to the most marginalised communities in India, we ensure that children are well-nourished and healthy, get to learn, stay out of harm’s way and are able to unlock their true potential. We strive to ensure that the children of India not only survive but also thrive and stay healthy. During disasters, we are always among the first to respond and the last to leave, providing life-saving humanitarian aid to children and their families. We stay put in disaster-struck area for a long time – we provide rehabilitation and livelihood support to families.
In India, we started our work in April 2012. Since then, we have touched the lives of more than 10 lakh (1 million) children. We are registered as an independent Indian not-for-profit organisation under the Societies Act, 1860 under the name ‘Bal Raksha Bharat’. Last year alone (in 2019), we reached 4 lakh children through our programmes. We amplify children’s voices where it matters the most. This means that apart from working on the ground, we connect with the Government authorities at local, state and Central level to ensure that they frame policies in the best interest of children.
We are proud to be the world’s leading experts on children, delivering lasting results for millions. By saving children, we transform their lives for good and forever.
